The Loving Beast by Ava McHugh

Enkidu

was a savage.

He was a loving beast.

He couldn’t control himself.

He found himself

wrapped up in love

with Shamhat.

He slowly

approached her.

He did not know what to say.

Shamhat loved him too.

She felt safe with him

even though he was

an animal.

Sent to teach

Gilgamesh about love

and compassion, Enkidu

Saved him from death.

Gilgamesh then knew

the way of life.

  1. Ava, I am so impressed. Enkidu is part animal and you have captured that very well. I think your love of animals helped you to understand the relationship between Enkidu and Shamhat. The last line is very powerful. You have a talent for saying a lot in very few words. That is hard to do. Keep up the good work!
